6am is early on a Saturday, but worth it

If you have been staying posted, then you know that yesterday was the opening of Trout Season here in Michigan. You also know that I wanted to desperately catch a fish worth keeping.....Well did I ever mention that 6 am is VERY early for me on a Saturday? Sure I have peanut, but she is used to getting up at 730 am, that I can handle!
My alarm went off at 530 yesterday, of course snooze was hit o' say 3 or 4 times. I finally rolled out of bed to lightning and sprinkles. I called ~E~ to see if she was on her way (this took a bit of persuasion on my part to get her to meet me at my casa by 630 and NO LATER!) Well, to my surprise ~E~ was filled with energy and on her way. The good vibes quickly rubbed off on me, and I got my tail in gear. I had the car packed the night before, and the neighbors were up for the "holilday" ( I wanted to leave before them b/c I was afraid they might go to "my spot")! ~E~ pulled into my drive at the same time they were leaving...so off we went. The sprinkles had stopped, and the sun was beginning to show itself.
My spot is only a mile or so from my house, and the land was donated many moons ago. The gentlemen that once owned the area decided before he died to "give" the land back to the DNR. There were stipulations involved..but pretty much from opening day until the last day of the season anyone can fish here. The gate was unlocked and no "new" tracks were headed in...we had THE spot!
We wadered up, got out gear and walked the .5 mile path down the the river bank. The birds were chirping, the river was flowing high, the flies had hatched and the air was warm; perfect conditions to fish.
I put my white and red mepps spinner on and casted away.
In the quite still of the morning a mink decided she would fish too, so I payed close attention not to cast in her area.
After an about 2 hours of fishing with no catches, but A LOT of bits, we decided to head to breakfast (our first mistake) . By now it was down pouring, and for some reason we decided to travel 20 minutes north to wolverine. (okay, so I know why we went up there, the Sturgeon River flows north, and we wanted to find a "better" spot too).
While at breakfast ~E~ called her dad, (a former meteorologist) to see what the black clouds where, and when the bad weather would strike. (we won't mention how a certain someone was also on call this weekend, called work-no answer-and went on my ( mean here) merry way. and we certainly won't mention how her co-worker got called in instead. oops..)
Well, indeed nasty thunderstorms were moving in, and after no luck with the "new" spots, we headed back to fisherman's access. Needless to say it is a good thing I live so close, b/c the rain came in right when we got there, and that was the end of the morning. ~E~ returned home, probably to take a nap, and I entertained peanut the rest of the day. We even went fishing for a few minutes together. She absolutely loved it!
When I returned, mt.man decided to take advantage of nap time for peanut, and headed out mushroom picking. (Yes, it is moral season too!) Not much luck for him either.
With the rain continuing through the weekend, I have hung up my pole until tomorrow (my monday off), and we are all just taking it easy today. O' and did I mention the ticks are out..I found 4 on me yesterday(set rain coat on wet ground, another mistake), that is more in one day than I had all last year...time to spot check one's self before going inside! (I hate those lil buggers, I can live with almost any insect, but the thought of sometime burying in my skin makes me have the itchies.)
O' and of course b/c I was half asleep yesterday, I didn't take any pictures. (another mistake by ~E~ and I). Hopefully tomorrow I will get some good shots! Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Shellmo-do you come up every weekend? If you don't have plans this sat. I am free for coffee!

Fishing Guy-I know that as soon as I practice more techniques I will catch something. I taught myself to stream fish, so I figure it will take awhile! O' and do I know about those ticks...we have seen a case or two at the hospital I work at...doesn't look fun-always do spot checks.

Sounds like a typical trout fishing day! :) I'm sure there will be much better days with big catches.
