Welcomed Gloominess

The weather today is not "perfect"...you know sunny and 70, but in so many other ways it is.
The fire danger here has been extremely high for the last week. With all the snow melting, leaving everything dry and dead. Just one of the hazards of spring. However, last night it started to sprinkle...and it continued. Yeah! It is a cool rainy and 40 degrees today! Normally I prefer the sun...yet the rain is soaking everything that is dry, and giving all the vegetation the needed nutrients. It kinda "wakes" everything up. I bet by the end of the week the trees on the hill will start to bloom. Gotta love aspens...last to loose their leaves, first to grow em' back!
With spring comes the reassurance that anything can start over, and try to grow to its fullest possibilities. Every spring I work in my gardens trying to make them look perfect. Yet, with being a "young" family, we are always short on extra spending money. You know...heat always trumps name brand cereal! lol! So needless to say I had to get creative when trying to finish off my flower beds. The last three years I have been adding a variety of new life to our yard, and working on 3or4 flower beds that had over grown, yet still produced flowers. Well, this year it is time to finish it off...and with lack of money here is what I came up with....
Since we burn wood for the majority of the winter, we have alot of saw dust and bark lying around. So I did a lil research and thought what the heck, saw dust is just the micro version of wood chips. Time to keep the weeds out. I am a novice gardner and it is hard to tell the difference between weeds and flowers. I usually find out the difference way late, and by then the flower beds are over taken. So here is to the wood chips. O' and since I didn't have borders for some of the beds, I just used the bark from the logs. It turned out pretty sweet. And who can bet the fact they are easy to clean up. two snaps for that!

O' and lets not forget, it is making me motivated to pick up that pile above! lol...It was covered in snow all winter, and we have to clean the area up so we can get more wood for the winter. It is a good thing I have a lot of landscaping to do, and mt.man is also building peanut a tree house this summer. I think I have seen wood chips in playgrounds, huummm the area may be clean before I know it! lol :)

It was a sunny week until this morning when I left! We were looking at our yard this weekend too trying to figure out what landscaping projects would be in the budget - lol! A tree house sounds like a great project - your little one will love it!!
P.S. Really like that bay window you have in your house that's showing in the 1st photo.

SM: Take care with the sawdust, it's not like wood chips wich allow the water to get through. It could make a crust which could choke your plants. Make sure you keep it broken and loose.

thanks for the heads up fishing guy! I didn't even think of it forming a crust. I'll have to keep an eye on it!
